Project: Residential / Formal Dining Room

Client Brief: To incorporate the existing dining suite - consisting of French Polish Mahogany 9 piece dining suite (table & 8 chairs), buffet and 2 x Antique family heirloom chairs - 'Grandmother' and 'Grandfather' chairs dating from 1870's. To update the colour scheme and freshen up the upholstery on the dining suite chairs and antique chairs. The Client wants to make this room lighter, more contemporary and flow into the other rooms such as formal lounge. The Client indicated the colour palette to be taken from the newly purchased formal lounge/s.
Room Aspect: Northerly facing with all day light from mid-morning sun to afternoon & evening light, formal lounge room and front entry way run directly from the dining room, and door/way from formal dining room opens to open plan kitchen & living room.

Residential | Colour Consulting & Styling /Decorating - Entry Way

Project: Residential / Front Entry Way

Client Brief: To incorporate the existing Chaise Lounge & Crystal Chandelier. To update the colour scheme and freshen up the upholstery on the chaise lounge [whilst also considering the dining suite chairs and antique chairs located in the dining room that runs off this entry way]. The Client wants to make this room lighter, more contemporary and flow into the other rooms such as formal lounge and Dining Room. The Client indicated the colour palette to be taken from the newly purchased formal lounge/s where there are shades of clay cream, China powder blue, meringue, and latte taupe.
Room Aspect: Southerly facing with some morning to mid-morning sun, formal lounge & dining rooms run directly from the front entry way, and door/way from entry way to casual living room & kitchen. and onto back family room.

Above & Below. 70' Yellow glass panels in the cedar front door were replaced by clear pebbled anti-shattered glass - for a lighter, more contemporary whilst remaining private - look. A over sized textured tile [laid in a diamond pattern with boarder] in stone cream was chosen for the front door entry way to prevent carpet becoming instantly soiled when coming in from the verandah.

Image Above & Below. The Antique Chaise lounge was re-upholstered in a herringbone macro-suede in China Powder Blue with matching braid trim for finishing. The shade of this blue [with a grey base] fabric make the antique timber [red base] appear richer and more sophisticated.

The Science - How We See Colour.

Light is made up of numerous waves or impulses each having different dimensions or wavelengths; the eye and brain translate light into colour.

All surfaces absorb and reflect different wavelengths - It is the reflected wavelengths that determine what colour we see.

When separated, any single wavelength will produce a specific colour impression to the human eye. Each colour has its own properties that form its wavelength, from violet with shortest wavelength through the colour spectrum to the reds which have the longest.

The more pigmented your paint is, the more wavelengths are created and therefore the greater the perception of depth.

Project Type: Large Scale Luxury Residential Property Development
Project to be Located: East Sydney NSW.

Client Brief: To Create schematics - mood and surface boards for colours & materials to be used in the the display apartments and all general finishes to assist with pre-sales contract issue for the development.
These boards are used to show prospective buyers (investors / owner occupiers) an indicative colour scheamtic and finsh they can expect through basic apartment fit out.
These schematics include aspriational images with view to create a sophisticated, smart, contemporary, clean neutral palette to suit a mix of ages and stages of life.
On the schematic boards are materials indicative for the schedule of finishes such as fabric swatches for soft furnishings, tiles for flooring - interior & balcony extrerior, laundry, bathroom and kitchen, as well as paint colours & finishes, and carpet swatches.

Client: Financial services & planning company,
Location: Sydney -City, NSW

Brief: To replace the existing ‘Ken Duncan’ rainforest framed print from the Financial Wealth (FW) Reception/ Greeting area, with a custom painted artwork. The artwork is to be executed within the style of the reception space, and in keeping with the values and standards of the Financial Wealth business. To custom/ create a canvas art work that was complimentary to the previously commisioned textile art work. To subtly incorporate the company logo & room's hues without being obvious in a non-landscape style.

Terrace Townhouse - Living Room
Brief: Owners purchased their home off-the-plan and wanted to incorporate their exisitng and new furniture into a functional living room, whilst taking the colours and inspiration from their exhibtion art posters into soft furnishings & decor pieces. One of the requests was to 'keep the walls neutral like a canvas'.

The owners' Art posters from the exhibition 'From Russia with Love - costumes from the Ballet Russe' were framed, the frames were hand stained with Japanese Black and then rubbed back for a mottled effect, this would also tie the teak buffet and coffee table back to one another. A walnut teak lamp base and natural coloured lamp shade were added to a white side lamp table, which also compliments the Rectangular hyacinth lamp on the teak buffet.

The new teak buffet also served as a functional storage unit for housing the owners wine. Candle Towers in woven hyacinth, and candles, were sourced to compliment the furniture colours and to provide an alternate light source for dinner and entertaining when overhead down lights and lamps are not suitable.

Soft furnishings - cushions in navy stripes, floral paisley design with pale blue, burnt orange, vermillion and apple green, for the two lounges were chosen to tie back to the main poster art image. By using these colours through the room it ties the furniture, soft furnishings, decor and art work together creating a rhythmic flow through the space, whilst keeping the living room within the client brief as well light, bright, functional and stylish.

Recessed Media Area, Living Room - Terrace Townhome, Inner West Sydney NSW
Brief: Owners wanted to utilise the recessed space in their living room to a functional area for television, dvd player, to hide dvds, videos and magazines, as well as display favourite pieces - but at the same time still tie the space into the living room area.

On a wall facing the Kitchen and punctuating the end of the media recess, the owner's grandmother gave this 'Willow style' blue & white tea towel as a house warming gift, rather than use it for drying plates, preserving it as a warmer memory and a piece of art was a far better idea, by mounting it in a simple frame. The frame is stained with Japanese black, and oiled, this colour stain was chosen to tie the other larger framed pieces in the living room together, and allowing the framed plated below to stand on their own in the recess space.

Owner's Treasures - Making art pieces from hand painted plates from Fez, Morocco were mounted and framed in shadow boxes on the feature painted recess.

The recessed walls - back and two sides are painted in British Paints 'Jarvis Blue'.

The ceiling of the recessed area was intentionally left as the wall colour Taubmans 'White Canvas' to visually take advantage of the recess and creating a real depth of space and a darker/ theatre-like viewing area for the television.

The owners wanted to avoid where possible have specific custom made furniture for this area, so the sourced ready-made white pigeon hole style buffet unit is the perfect dimension for length and breadth for this space. The unit stands the television, set top boxes and dvd players, and displays serving bowls, whilst also housing magazines, dvds and video tapes tucked away neatly in the wicker baskets. A small frosted glass lamp provides ambient lighting when the television is not in use.
